ADELPHI, Md., June 4 -- The U.S. Army Research Laboratory Supercomputing Research Center will host an invitation-only open house at 9 a.m., June 10, at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md.
Dale A. Ormond, the director of the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command and event host, invites the media to attend.
The ARL Supercomputing Research Center, which hosts one of the DOD Supercomputing Resource Centers is a state-of-the-art facility that provides cutting-edge computational science research and world-class supercomputing systems in support of research, development, test and evaluation programs for the national defense.
Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) is expected to visit the facility for the first time, along with Dr. John Holdren, from the Office of the White House office of Science and Technology Policy.
Journalists who plan to cover the event are encouraged to contact the ARL Public Affairs Office no later than June 5, to be pre-credentialed due to increased security.
ARL Director Thomas Russell, Ph.D., will talk about ARL's leadership in advanced scientific computing systems since World War II. Ormond, Russell, Dr. John Pellegrino, the Director of the ARL Computational and Information Sciences Directorate, and Dr. Raju Namburu, the Center's Director, will be available for interviews.
Journalists should arrive at the APG Visitor Center no later than 8:15 a.m., 45 minutes prior to the 9 a.m. arrival of the official party (Directions to APG - http://go.usa.gov/b2bR). Attendees will get media access badges on site. Media tours of the facilities will be available.
