May 22 -- With the German economy set to remain weak amidst the prevailing Eurozone crisis, enterprises’ information and communication technology (ICT) spending in the country is likely to witness only moderate growth in 2013, according to ICT analysis firm Kable. A recent survey of 137 German enterprises finds that 44% of ICT decision makers are planning to increase their ICT spending slightly in 2013 (by up to 5%), whilst another 8% of respondents are planning to increase their ICT budgets significantly (by 6% or more compared to 2012). However, the survey also indicates that 14% of respondents are anticipating a decrease in their ICT spending in 2013.
Kable’s research reveals that German enterprises are positive about their ICT spending, and are primarily focusing on investments in IT security, enterprise applications and IT systems management technologies. At least 80% of enterprises are planning to make investments in the aforementioned technologies. Nevertheless, spending on technologies such as mobility, communications & collaboration, green IT & virtualisation, and business intelligence are also high on IT managers’ priority lists.
“Although hosted solutions are gaining prominence, German enterprises largely prefer on-site deployment,” comments Tim Gower, a Kable Research Director. “German enterprises prefer to deploy the likes of enterprise applications, security and IT systems management on-site, while there is an increasing preference for hosting technologies such as content management and green IT & virtualisation.” Kable believes that the adoption of hosted services will continue to increase amongst German enterprises, given the significant cost savings that they can generate.
