PALO ALTO, Calif., March 4 — Hortonworks, a leading contributor to Apache Hadoop projects, today announced that Bob Page has joined the company as vice president of products. Previously at eBay, Inc., Page brings over 17 years of enterprise data and analytics experience to Hortonworks and will lead the strategic development of the Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP), the industry's only community-driven, 100-percent open source platform powered by Apache Hadoop. Page will be responsible for delivering enterprise-grade, stable versions of HDP that help accelerate Hadoop adoptions and extend the big data platform to the entire IT ecosystem.
Prior to joining Hortonworks, Page was vice president of analytics platform and delivery at eBay, Inc., where he managed and evolved eBay's data efforts, data and analytics platforms, applications and services, including one of the industry's largest Apache Hadoop deployments. Page will leverage his enterprise data experience to lead Hortonworks' product strategy, ensuring that the company remains focused on its main objective—making Apache Hadoop easy to use and consume by the growing ecosystem of enterprise customers and partners.
"Hortonworks is rapidly becoming the defacto source for enterprise-class Apache Hadoop," said Rob Bearden, CEO of Hortonworks. "Bob has an excellent track record of making Hadoop work at scale in a large, fast-paced enterprise environment, which will play a vital role in ensuring the product direction and successful roadmap of the Hortonworks Data Platform."
"I am thrilled to be joining Hortonworks and helping to make the community-driven, 100-percent open source Apache Hadoop distribution the most stable and enterprise-ready distribution possible," said Bob Page, vice president of products of Hortonworks. "I am a strong believer in a community-driven and open Apache Hadoop, since the innovation within the open source community will always eclipse the innovation of a single group or company."
Prior to eBay, Page served as senior director of strategic data solutions at Yahoo!, where he built the Yahoo! experimentation platform, led business intelligence, and the data operations team, among others. Page holds a bachelor of science in computer science from Fitchburg State College in Fitchburg, Mass.
