ITHACA, NY, Oct. 16 — A National Science Foundation-sponsored training workshop – “Parallel Computing at TACC: Ranger to Stampede Transition” – will be offered on November 6 and December 11, 2012 on the campus of Cornell University.
The one-day workshop will prepare the national research community to use Ranger now, while preparing users for Stampede which will be available in early 2013. Concepts taught in this workshop will readily transfer to other HPC platforms.
Deployed at the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC), Stampede is a powerful addition to the Extreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment (XSEDE). Stampede will have a peak performance of more than 2 petaflops from the base cluster of Intel® Xeon® processors and more than 7 petaflops from the Intel Xeon Phi™ co-processors. The compute nodes are more than 5,000 Dell PowerEdge C8220X “Zeus” servers, each of which contains dual 8-core Intel E5-2680 processors and 32 gigabytes of memory. Remote visualization will be supported by 128 next-generation NVIDIA graphics processing units (GPUs).
Ranger to Stampede transition training will include the following topics:
The workshop will consist of lectures and labs conducted by consultants from the Cornell University Center for Advanced Computing (CAC). Lab exercises will be conducted on Ranger. CAC staff will be available during the training session to assist users in their code development efforts. There is no fee to attend.
