Overclocking platform pushes speed boundaries for high frequency trading solutions
FREMONT, Calif., Dec. 16 -- SGI, a trusted leader in technical computing, today announced a new overclocking platform for the Rackable half-depth server line that will bring increased CPU frequency speeds to high frequency trading, compute, and other applications that require more than the fastest available processors. This new platform expands SGI's product portfolio to include overclocked CPU configurations as part of the company's commitment to unique, custom-tailored platforms for customers that require the utmost in high performance computing.
SGI Rackable servers are ideal to meet high frequency trading customers' needs for high compute speed, industry-leading energy efficiency, and density. This new overclocking platform is designed into the Rackable half-depth 4U chassis, and is air-cooled for maximum energy efficiency. The platform is based on a motherboard capable of 3.33 GHz under normal operation and, with the overclocking feature, the processor can run up to 4.3 GHz, depending on the application. Using the half-depth platform allows an air-cooled solution with 50 percent or greater density with respect to other solutions on the market.
"SGI has been providing unique solutions for high frequency trading for many years and continues to offer customers the best platforms possible for their applications," said Conor Malone, vice president of engineering at SGI. "This new overclocking platform is a major step forward in speed for the high frequency trading market. Our tradition of building custom solutions, as well as our continued commitment to platform leadership, is evident with this new overclocking solution that will significantly accelerate results for the high performance sector."
SGI's Rackable half-depth, rackmount servers incorporate a unique, industry-leading approach to thermal management and power efficiency to enable power savings and higher levels of reliability for datacenter environments. Rackable half-depth servers are mounted back-to-back to achieve twice the density of comparable solutions.
