SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug. 20 -- RiverMeadow Software Inc., developer of the world's only automated server migration solution developed specifically for carrier and service provider clouds, will be participating at VMworld 2013, August 25-29 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California. Now in its 10th year, VMworld has emerged as the leading source for the knowledge and connections businesses need to leverage virtualization and cloud computing technologies.
Many companies face similar challenges when migrating to a cloud environment. With data center demands continuously evolving, businesses are looking for a streamlined and automated way to migrate their first server workloads into the cloud. In a session titled Migrating Server Workloads into vCloud Environments, it's Never Been Easier, Jay Workman, director, Service Provider Marketing, VMware, and Scott Colgan, Vice President of Marketing at RiverMeadow, will provide an overview of how VMware, working with RiverMeadow, is making it fast, easy and affordable for partners to migrate virtually any server workload into their vCloud environment -- from a competitive cloud or private cloud. The session will be held on Monday, August 26, at 3:30 p.m. (PT).
RiverMeadow will also be exhibiting at booth #219 where the company will be showcasing the RiverMeadow Cloud Migration SaaS which provides a simple, automated and customizable approach to onboarding and migrating server workloads into and between VMware vCloud environments. RiverMeadow does not require the installation of agents, nor does it interfere with the operation of the source server during a migration. As a result, there is no need to reboot source servers to begin collection or shut them down until final cut-over to the new cloud instance. RiverMeadow collects server images and relative metadata, and then converts the image onto the target hypervisor. RiverMeadow then deploys the converted hypervisor images into the target cloud environment as a fully compatible virtual machine (VM).
Additionally, RiverMeadow is driving server workload migrations to VMware vCloud Service Provider environments through a joint marketing campaign with VMware. Leveraging VMware Cloud Credits, this campaign offers enterprises and SMBs a low-risk, automated means to centralize workload management into the vCloud ecosystem of Service Providers while combatting issues such as cloud sprawl and rogue IT spend. Users can redeem a portion of their Cloud Credits with participating vCloud Service Providers to migrate server workloads using the RiverMeadow Cloud Migration SaaS. RiverMeadow and VMware are also sponsoring a limited number of free migrations onto participating vCloud Service Provider clouds. Visit the RiverMeadow booth for more details.
An important distinction of the RiverMeadow cloud migration approach is in the process of converting the collected image into a bootable VM that is compatible with the target environment. Other migration solutions simply collect an image and look for the best target environment VM template to match it with, hoping for minimal failures when the new VM is deployed. Typically, though, significant manual processes are necessary, essentially working on issues backward from inception. RiverMeadow's automated SaaS-based approach to cloud migration removes the need for software purchases in order to achieve migration targets. It also eliminates expenses incurred for enterprise license purchases. RiverMeadow charges per migration so companies can migrate at their own pace based on strategic objectives.
VMworld offers attendees informative Breakout Sessions and Hands-on Lab training, plus access to a wealth of technology partners to discuss virtualization best practices, building a private cloud, leveraging the public cloud, managing desktops as a service, virtualizing enterprise applications and more.
