AUSTIN, Texas, March 8 — GreenQloud, the world's first Truly Green cloud computing company, today announced the launch of QloudSync, a new cloud storage syncing client (in beta) at South by Southwest (SXSW) Interactive, a festival that brings together the brightest and most innovative minds in emerging technology from around the globe. GreenQloud will showcase QloudSync and its other services at booth #1326 in the exhibition hall.
QloudSync is the newest of GreenQloud's Truly Green cloud computing services to run exclusively on 100% renewable energy, enabling customers to safely and securely store and share computing data such as photos, videos, e-books and documents, all while minimizing their carbon footprint.
All files synced with QloudSync are automatically stored and updated on GreenQloud's clean energy-powered StorageQloud, enabling users to readily access their synced files from any internet-enabled computing device, any time and anywhere with a familiar file and folder structure. Music files and photos can also be played and viewed directly from StorageQloud.
GreenQloud built QloudSync using the SparkleShare a GPL 3.0 open sourced project. By open sourcing QloudSync, which will run on Mac OSX, Windows and Linux, GreenQloud is enabling anyone to build a synching client and run it on an open standard API-based Cloud infrastructure like GreenQloud.
QloudSync's backbone, StorageQloud and its web client feature social media sharing capabilities, allowing GreenQloud customers to easily share with friends, families, followers or colleagues any files stored via QloudSync. Users of QloudSync can password protect shared files as well as set expiration time limits on shared links. The management console for StorageQloud also provides customers with fun metrics about the carbon emissions they've saved by storing their data on StorageQloud, which can then be shared on social media.
"QloudSync solves two significant pain points in data storage: tiered accessibility and manageability while also meeting the IT Industry need for more sustainable energy solutions," says Eirikur Hrafnsson, GreenQloud Co-founder and Chief Global Strategist. "QloudSync changes the way that people and businesses interact with the cloud and each other by offering an easy-to-use syncing client that makes data storage with sharable yet secure cloud storage."
"GreenQloud leads the cloud industry in sustainability, utilizing cleaner energy resources and highly efficient hardware to power the cloud; and builds products and services on open source software making the cloud easier, cheaper and as green as possible," says GreenQloud CEO Bala Kamallakharan.
QloudSync, offered in conjunction with the two existing services by GreenQloud, ComputeQloud and StorageQloud, supports GreenQloud's goals of designing an easier to use cloud while leading the IT industry to become more sustainable.
GreenQloud offers TrulyGreen cloud computing virtual servers and data storage (IaaS) powered by 100% renewable energy. GreenQloud services, such as ComputeQloud and StorageQloud feature an easy-to-use, self-service web console and advanced AWS-compatible API controls for full automation of IT services. GreenQloud's newest service, QloudSync, enables users to sync files and folders from their computer to StorageQloud, for availability on the web as well as on any computer or smart phone.
GreenQloud was founded in 2010 and is privately funded. In 2011, Gartner chose GreenQloud as a Cool Vendor in Green IT and Sustainability. The company has been lauded by the industry and media for its sustainability efforts. GreenQloud has won several Icelandic government grants, such as the technology grant from Rannis (The Icelandic Centre for Research). Verne Global serves as the primary data center facility for GreenQluod, with Thor DC (Advania) serving as an additional location.
