Dell Announces mCloud Helix

ROUND ROCK, Texas, Oct. 16 — Dell announced today the availability of the mCloud Helix Solution, an OpenStack-powered cloud appliance in partnership with Morphlabs, Inc. As a result, Dell customer Media Temple, a web hosting and cloud services company, is leveraging the new Dell integrated private cloud offering for its customers.

Media Temple estimates the mCloud Helix solution from Dell will enable an estimated 50 percent reduction in OPEX costs, and a reduction in data center footprint to a single 2U chassis. These reductions allow Media Temple to efficiently expand and meet the growing needs of its customers.

A highly-optimized private cloud offering, the turnkey modular mCloud Helix solution features Dell’s power-dense and energy-efficiently designed PowerEdge C6220 server system with solid state disks (SSD), OpenStack cloud software, and Dell’s Crowbar software framework, along with 24x7 remote management and support services that maintain configurations and pushes updates as needed. The solution is able to support up to 80 virtual CPUs (vCPUs) and 3TB1 in a single 2U C6220 chassis.

Dell is partnering with Morphlabs to bring this solution to market, as the first Platform Partner with Dell’s Emerging Solutions Ecosystem Program. The program enables Dell to offer specific differentiated cloud solutions to small and medium business customers like Media Temple, who now can provide their customers with new cloud services. Morphlabs, a leader in integrated Dynamic Infrastructure Services for the enterprise, is the first company to join the Dell Emerging Solutions Platform Partner program.

Quotes:

“With the mCloud Helix solution, Dell empowers us to enable our customers to move quickly – they can experiment, innovate and get apps ready for production faster. Dell is showing some great leadership in the private cloud space. It shows that they see the vision of all of these technologies working together, and how that makes the lives of customers better.” -- Demian Sellfors, Media Temple CEO

“The mCloud Helix is an inherent solution for Dell small and medium business customers and incorporates many of the Dell technologies and IP they already use, including Dell PowerEdge C servers. Working closely with Dell, we can now provide customers with a product offering that sets a new bar for fulfilling their workload needs – from build and test to high performance computing. Our focus on delivering price performance in cloud computing aligns perfectly with Dell’s Emerging Solutions Platform Partnership Program, so we’re honored to join this effort to benefit the ecosystem as a whole.” -- Winston Damarillo, Morphlabs CEO

“Morphlabs is an ideal partner for our Emerging Solutions Platform Partner program, as together we can now offer customers turnkey integrated private clouds that combine some of the best hardware and orchestration software in the world. It reaffirms our commitment to powering the world’s clouds, and extending our delivery of new solutions that use our OpenStack-based solutions along with the innovation of partners.” -- John Igoe, executive director of cloud and big data solutions at Dell
