Riak Cloud Storage (CS) and Citrix CloudPlatform to provide integrated storage and compute capabilities for private, hybrid, and public clouds
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Sept. 5 — Basho Technologies, the worldwide leader in distributed database technologies, announced today that it is partnering with Citrix on the Apache CloudStack project and delivering an integrated cloud infrastructure platform for the enterprise market. The companies have agreed to collaborate and jointly market integrated cloud platform software that includes Basho's distributed object storage system, Riak CS. Riak CS will be a tested and certified object storage option for enterprises deploying Citrix CloudPlatform, the commercial distribution of the Apache CloudStack open source cloud computing platform.
Basho and Citrix are working together on a combined platform for compute and storage resources. Once completed, the fully integrated solution will include end-to-end authentication support allowing users to have common credentials for both storage and compute resources, as well as an integrated reporting system to allow unified billing. The solution will provide both Citrix CloudPlatform and Apache CloudStack users a unique built-in multi-datacenter replication option for maximum protection, availability and geographic locality of data. Basho will also offer 24x7 support with commercial service-level agreements for customers to ensure the integrity of data storage within Apache CloudStack for customers.
Riak CS is a multi-tenant, distributed, S3-compatible cloud storage platform that enables enterprises and service providers to launch public or private cloud services. Built on top of Riak, the world's most advanced, open-source, distributed database, Riak CS provides horizontal scale, extreme durability and low operational overhead in a distributed object storage system.
About Apache CloudStack
Since its introduction, Apache CloudStack has rapidly become the leading open source platform for building, managing and delivering highly scalable infrastructure-as-a-service clouds for over 150 customers. Based on the technology from the Apache CloudStack project, Citrix CloudPlatform provides customers with solutions that make it easy to build new clouds, connect to existing cloud services, and deliver unparalleled cloud services with the best security, performance and reliability. The collaboration between Basho and Citrix combines a proven object storage platform with the market leading cloud compute platform and delivers a robust, open, hypervisor-agnostic platform to help customers of all sizes build true Amazon-style clouds.
Peder Ulander, Vice President of Product Marketing, Cloud Platforms, Citrix
"Highly-available and reliable data storage is a fundamental and necessary component of any cloud infrastructure platform," said Peder Ulander, CMO, Citrix. "By integrating, testing and certifying Riak CS with Apache CloudStack, Basho is providing best-in-class object storage and a unique multi-data center replication option that arms our users to achieve the highest levels of availability and scalability. Citrix is excited to endorse this combination for our customers."
Kevin Kluge, Vice President of Engineering, Cloud Platforms, Citrix
"Basho's distributed data capabilities enable an always-on architecture," said Kevin Kludge, Vice President of Engineering, Cloud Platforms at Citrix. "Riak's master-less architecture is well-suited to the growth and availability needs of cloud environments. This benefit is even more visible when extended across multiple datacenters. Apache CloudStack users will soon easily access this innovative data storage capability."
Kiichi Yamato, Vice Division Director, IDC Frontier
"IDC Frontier strongly supports the strategic partnership between Basho and Citrix," commented Kiichi Yamato, vice division director at IDC Frontier. "We feel that Riak CS is the perfect complement to Apache CloudStack, providing a proven, distributed cloud storage capability. This partnership follows our recent equity investment in support of Basho which emphasized our strategic interest in distributed technologies that can leverage the IDC Frontier footprint of data centers throughout Japan."
George Reese, Chief Technology Officer, enStratus
"enStratus is pleased to see Basho partner with Citrix's CloudStack, one of the more popular cloud computing architectures for the enterprise market," said George Reese, CTO of enStratus. "We first worked with Basho to gain a 'master/master' replication system that enabled enStratus to run live operations across multiple data centers. With Riak, we are achieving our goal of a highly-available, 'design for failure' architecture. Now, we are excited to see that our customers will benefit from an distributed cloud storage solution integrated with their CloudStack deployments."
Justin Sheehy, Chief Technology Officer, Basho
"Basho is excited to integrate Riak CS with CloudStack to create a complete cloud infrastructure platform," said Justin Sheehy, Basho's CTO. "In addition, we will continue to demonstrate our commitment to Apache CloudStack and to open source by contributing back to the project. I am confident that the combination of Apache CloudStack and Riak CS will provide operators with the most powerful and complete cloud computing platform available on the market."
Riak CS and CloudStack at RICON 2012
Basho's CTO Justin Sheehy and Citrix's vice president of engineering for Cloud Platforms, Kevin Kluge, will co-present at RICON 2012 on October 10th and 11th in San Francisco, CA. RICON 2012 is a two-day dedicated conference dedicated to Riak, developers and the future of distributed systems. For registration and event information, click on www.ricon2012.com.
