Cloud-computing veteran brings data security and commercialization expertise to upcoming platform launch
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., May 16 — DNAnexus, a DNA data management and analysis platform, today announced that it has appointed Marc Olesen as President and Chief Operating Officer. With deep experience in cloud computing and data security, Olesen will complement the company's existing executive team as DNAnexus gears up for the commercial launch of its new genomics data management and analysis platform.
"Cloud computing is still relatively new to the life science research market, and we are pleased to have Marc onboard. His years of experience in go-to-market planning for large-scale cloud-based solutions will be invaluable to us during this critical phase of commercializing our new platform," said Andreas Sundquist, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder of DNAnexus.
Olesen was most recently Senior Vice President and General Manager of Network and Cloud Security for McAfee, the world's largest dedicated security technology company. At McAfee, he focused on cloud security and data loss prevention solutions for end customers and cloud computing service providers. Prior to that, he was Vice President of Software-as-a-Service for Mercury Interactive, which was acquired during his tenure by Hewlett-Packard. Olesen has been integral in establishing cloud-based solutions for major healthcare organizations, medical providers, and the pharmaceutical industry. He holds both an A.B. in Economics and an M.S. in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University.
"I am very excited to be joining DNAnexus, which sits at the intersection of three significant opportunities: biology, cloud computing, and big data," Olesen said. "DNAnexus has clearly demonstrated its leadership and innovation in bringing cloud computing to the life sciences, and the upcoming launch of our new platform will reinforce that. I look forward to being part of the DNAnexus team, working with our partners and, most importantly, helping our customers find new solutions to simplify and accelerate their work with genomic data."
