Keynotes From Box, Amazon Web Services, Bromium, Eucalyptus and Straterra Partners to Kick Off Cloud Fair 2012

SEATTLE, Feb. 24 — Leading companies in cloud computing are slated to deliver keynotes, user case studies and hands-on tutorials at Seattle's newest and largest cloud computing conference.

CloudFair 2012 Cloud Computing Conference and Expo will feature more than 40 sessions and 10 workshops as part of its three-day event at the Sheraton Seattle from April 17 through 19. Selected keynotes and sessions include:

  • Box COO Dan Levin will present a keynote titled, "Building an Enterprise Software Company That Doesn't Suck." In it, he will explain how new enterprise startups are focusing on product execution as the best means of acquiring and retaining customers. This stands in contrast to the pre-cloud model, where companies built aggressive sales teams around locking customers into licenses (Levin calls this "elephant hunting"). Levin will demonstrate how the new rules of enterprise software are about delivering substantially better products and services and aligning customers with buyers in new ways that were not possible before cloud technology.
  • Margaret Dawson, vice president at cloud storage provider Symform, will present a session titled, "Is the Cloud Safer, Cheaper, and Greener?" She will break some myths around cloud computing and address whether building out infrastructure to support cloud-based platforms is always the right answer, introducing distributed computing models and alternatives to the centralized data center architecture. Dawson is a frequent speaker on cloud computing, network security and data integration who recently joined Symform, a Seattle-based start-up experiencing record growth of its network.
  • Brett Goodwin, vice president of marketing and business development for cloud computing services provider Skytap, will speak in in two sessions at this year's CloudFair Seattle event. The first is "Public vs. Hybrid vs. Private: Which is Your Last Resort?" The second is "Tips and Tricks for Rolling out Applications Faster in the Cloud." Skytap recently announced that more than one million virtual machines have been launched by customers using its service.
