SAN MATEO, Calif., December 8, 2010 -- newScale Inc., pioneers of the self-service IT storefront for the enterprise, today announced the new newScale Service PortalTM. With this new solution, enterprise IT organizations and service providers can quickly and easily provide an intuitive “single pane of glass” dashboard for their users, combining data from newScale applications and other sources into a highly configurable and flexible self-service portal interface for cloud services or any IT service.
Today’s enterprise IT users are savvy and demanding consumers. They expect IT to be self-service and easy-to-use, delivered on-demand within minutes not weeks. As cited in the Gartner, Inc. report “Private Cloud Computing: An Essential Overview” (November 23rd, 2010) by analyst Tom Bittman, “The primary benefit of private cloud computing is speed. Implementing a service catalog that offers standard services through a self-service interface, and automating the delivery of those offerings, can increase the speed of delivery dramatically.”
For both service providers and enterprise IT departments, the user portal is an essential component for delivering private cloud computing and IT as a Service. With the newScale Service Portal, users have a highly configurable and compelling self-service interface – with the ability to tailor the user experience for their unique preferences as a business manager, application developer, IT architect, or other roles. Enterprises and service providers can deliver a cloud portal as simple as Amazon Web Services, but with the personalization, flexibility, and consumer ease-of-use of iGoogle.
The newScale Service Portal offers powerful new capabilities that enable IT organizations and service providers to quickly and easily:
Publish branded, personalized IT portal pages and portlets for different user audiences
Provide a Web-based “single pane of glass” dashboard, with data from multiple sources
Leverage newScale’s role-based access controls (RBAC) to control who sees what
Increase flexibility and control over the user experience, with drag & drop configurability
Accelerate the design of new portal content and simplify ongoing portal maintenance
This new portal product was designed to leverage data from newScale applications as well as third party systems. Portal pages and portlets can display user information including commonly requested items from the IT service catalog and updates on request status to ensure that their projects are on time – or more technical information such as the lease expiration for their virtual machines, their project team’s storage quota, or monitoring data from a third party system. Service provider portals may also include customer billing and account information, and can be easily branded for each customer with their logo and colors.
“This innovative new portal interface is based on input gathered from our global customer base of leading Global 2000 enterprises and service providers,” said Scott Hammond, president and CEO of newScale. “By providing the flexibility for user personalization and configuration, the newScale Service Portal helps ensure more productive, efficient, and satisfied users – while improving IT agility and minimizing the cost of ongoing portal deployment and maintenance.”
newScale’s software provides a Web-based “menu” of standardized service options, with dynamic self-service provisioning and lifecycle management for physical, virtual, or cloud-based IT resources – from data center to desktop. Earlier this year, newScale was selected as the “Best of VMworld 2010” in the new category of private cloud computing. With newScale, users have easy, yet controlled, on-demand access to IT services – instead of waiting days or weeks.
