CSA Announces Cloud Security Certification

With so many unknowns about the state of cloud security it’s hard to imagine that there could be a certification process for deeming one an expert. Nonetheless, the Cloud Security Alliance, which is an organization comprised of vendors and cloud services customers, will soon be announcing a test for cloud security certification later this week at the Black Hat 2010 Security Conference, which is being held in Las Vegas.

At this point, this test appears to be more of a tool to educate the public since it is geared toward both IT professionals and general users. In an interview, Jim Reavis, Executive Director of the Cloud Security Alliance stated that the test is based on the guidelines that CSA has developed to make clouds more secure. It’s not clear what the certification will entail or how such certification would be delivered. Perhaps they will mail a special certificate? More than likely this "certification" will be a way for professionals to demonstrate knowledge and CSA to spread the word about the importance of cloud security.
