VirtualLogix Releases VLX for Network Infrastructure 2.0


SUNNYVALE, Calif., June 18 -- VirtualLogix Inc. today announced VLX for Network Infrastructure 2.0. This newest version of VLX for Network Infrastructure offers a host of new features and capabilities, including enhanced availability and increased OS and platform support, while taking advantage of the latest hardware from Intel, including support for the Intel NetStructure MPCBL0050 Single Board Computer, the first AdvancedTCA (ATCA) blade server based on the Intel Core microarchitecture. These new features expand the opportunity for manufacturers to deploy real-time virtualization technology anywhere that Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) or high throughput is needed.

VirtualLogix answers the requirements of network infrastructure equipment makers to create high performance products with reduced cost and improved reliability. Allowing developers to take immediate advantage of the latest Intel processor technology advancements, VirtualLogix VLX for Network Infrastructure 2.0 enables customers to run commercial or proprietary RTOS and Linux simultaneously on the same multi-core processor, resulting in reduced bill of materials, optimized performance and lowered power consumption.

With the addition of support for the Intel NetStructure MPCBL0050 Single Board Computer to VLX for Network Infrastructure 2.0, developers can take advantage of superior subsystem scalability and density while receiving a substantial performance boost. VirtualLogix further enables the consolidation of complex system hardware by allowing mix-and-match 32- or 64-bit, symmetric multi-processor or uni-processor combinations of real-time operating systems such as MontaVista Carrier Grade Linux and VxWorks with general purpose operating systems such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux or UNIX. VirtualLogix performance-focused architecture ensures that all guest-OSes retain fast and predictable response and I/O throughput.

New VLX for Network Infrastructure Features Include:

  • Enhanced Availability -- Partition control for dynamic start, restart of guests; Dynamic partition update; Fast reboot of guest OS.
  • Enhanced OS Support -- Intel Extended Memory 64 Technology (Intel EM64T) support for mix-and-match of 32/64 bit OS guests; also, verified support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.4 and 5.0 , VxWorks 6.2 RTOS and Monta Vista Linux Carrier Grade Edition 4.1.
  • Expanded Hardware Support -- Support for the Intel NetStructure® MPCBL0050 Single Board Computer, the first AdvancedTCA (ATCA) blade server based on the Intel Core microarchitecture.
  • Tested Platforms -- Intel, RadiSys, and Kontron ATCA and rack-mount systems integrating Intel Core Microarchitecture.
